Wizz, an app designed to connect teenagers in a Tinder-style format, is sparking serious concerns following alarming reports of sexual extortion, or sextortion, on the platform.

The FBI defines sextortion as a crime where a perpetrator pressures an individual into sending explicit images or content.  Once the perpetrator has the images or content, the perpetrator threatens to share them with the victim’s friends, family or the public unless they pay, often using payment apps, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.

A tipline revealed an alarming number of incidents on Wizz involving sextortion, with boys victimized in 93% of these incidents. Most of the victims are between the ages of 15 and 17. Predators often use stolen images to disguise themselves, tricking teens into believing they are speaking with peers. Once trust is gained, these predators move the conversation to platforms where explicit images and videos can be shared, coercing victims into sending sensitive content.

History of Sexual Abuse involving Wizz

Examples of sexual abuse and exploitation that have reportedly occurred on or through Wizz include:

• In July 2025, Alejandro Porras was arrested after he met an underage girl through Wizz, claiming to be 16 when he was actually 25.  After meeting on Wizz, Porras and the girl talked for several weeks and then met in person.  Porras and the young victim had sex after he snuck into her grandmother’s home where she was staying and on another occasion after going for a walk around 1 a.m, in the bed of his pickup truck, which was parked across the street from her home.  A few weeks after he was arrested for that case, Porras was also charged in another case involving a separate 14-year-old girl.

• In February 2024, it was reported that Cybertip.ca, a Canadian tipline, received over 180 reports allegedly linked to Wizz involving child sexual exploitation since 2021. Out of these reports, 91% involved sextortion, with boys being the victims in 93% of the cases. Most of the victims were reportedly between 15 and 17 years old. 

• In January 2024, Wizz was removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store after the National Center on Sexual Exploitation raised concerns about alleged sextortion scams.

• In January 2024, the Network Contagion Research Institute reported that Wizz was the third most-used app to target youth, after Instagram and Snapchat. Incidents had allegedly increased by 1,000% over the past 18 months. In their report, the institute stated that out of 500 English-speaking Wizz users, 40% faced sextortion, and 77% of them were under 18 years old. 

• In June 2023, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), a nonprofit that tracks reports of child sexual abuse material online, said it received over 100 reports that year about minors allegedly being sextorted on Wizz.

Do I Have a Case?
