He is included on the Diocese of Providence’s list of credibly accused clergy and died in August 2010.

Father Michael LaMountain History of Sexual Abuse
- According to the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Appendix A report, Father Michael LaMountain allegedly sexually abused at least 12 boys and young men during his priestly career, spanning from his seminary years in the 1970s through the 1990s.
The alleged abuse occurred primarily at his Spring Lake cottage in Burrillville and the rectory of St. John the Baptist Church in West Warwick, and included fondling, oral sex, and rape.
Despite receiving the first documented complaint in February 1989, the Diocese repeatedly failed to restrict LaMountain’s ministry or report allegations to law enforcement, allowing the abuse to continue for years.
- In July 2026, a victim filed a lawsuit in Rhode Island alleging LaMountain sexually abused him.
- In September 2002, claims against LaMountain were settled as part of a $13.5 million mass settlement involving 36 victims and the Diocese of Providence.
- In August 2002, LaMountain was named by the Archdiocese of Baltimore as one of six priests who allegedly abused students at St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore.
An individual alleged LaMountain abused a 14-year-old boy at Most Precious Blood Parish in Baltimore in 1973 while LaMountain was a seminarian.
- In January 1999, LaMountain pleaded guilty to nine felony counts relating to the sexual assault of five adolescent boys between the 1970s and early 1990s. He was required to register as a sex offender.
- In October 1997, LaMountain was indicted on sexual assault charges. At least two civil suits were filed in December 1995.
