Dr. Ritesh Kalra’s History of Sexual Abuse
- In January 2026, Dr. Ritesh Kalra, an internist from Secaucus, New Jersey, was charged in a 58-count indictment for allegedly running a “pill mill” and exploiting patients for sexual gratification.
The indictment included 36 counts of distributing opioids outside the usual course of professional practice, one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises, and 21 counts of health care fraud.
Federal officials alleged that between January 2019 and February 2025, he allegedly prescribed more than 31,000 prescriptions for oxycodone without legitimate medical purposes. Several former employees reported that female patients complained the doctor touched them sexually and demanded sexual favors, including oral sex, in exchange for opioid prescriptions. Employees also reported hearing sexual sounds coming from examination rooms during appointments with certain female patients.
- In July 2025, a criminal complaint detailed specific instances of alleged abuse involving individual patients:
In early 2022 through August 2023, Kalra allegedly sexually assaulted a female patient. On multiple occasions, he allegedly closed the door to an examination room or his personal back office, instructed the patient to pull down her pants, and engaged in forced anal sex. He allegedly told the patient to be quiet and insisted she must engage in sexual conduct to receive her prescriptions. When the patient eventually refused further assaults, he allegedly stopped providing her medication and discharged her as a patient.
In March 2022, during an initial appointment with a 25-year-old female patient, he allegedly asked to see her breasts and asked if he could suck on them. Despite having almost no physical contact with her after she became an employee at his office, he continued to write her high-dose prescriptions for opioids and promethazine with codeine.
Following his arrest in July 2025, he was also charged with defrauding the New Jersey Medicaid Program by billing for office visits that never occurred.

Do I Have a Case?
You may have grounds to file a civil legal action if:
- You were sexually abused by a doctor or medical staff.
- The abuse occurred at any medical facility.
- You were sexually exploited or abused by someone in a position of power within an organization meant to provide support and care.
Levy Konigsberg represents survivors in civil lawsuits that aim to hold medical facilities and other facility operators accountable for their failures to stop abusive staff members and protect patients.
As civil claims, these cases are separate from any criminal proceedings that may arise from abuse and focus instead on holding institutions liable for damages. This means you may still have a claim even if:
- Your abuser is no longer alive.
- Your abuser was never charged with or convicted of a crime.
Recoverable Damages in Sexual Abuse Claims
In addition to providing accountability and a sense of justice, civil sex abuse lawsuits allow survivors to recover financial compensation for their damages, which may include:
- Past medical and mental health expenses
- Future mental health expenses, including therapy, medications, etc.
- Pain and suffering
- Emotional anguish and psychological harm
- Lost income
- Other economic and non-economic damages
