Discord sexual abuse lawsuits involve allegations the platform allegedly enabled grooming, sextortion, exploitation, and abuse of minors.

Discord, a popular messaging platform with approximately 200 million users worldwide, has become a hub for online communities since its launch in 2015.  Originally designed for gamers, the platform now hosts groups on topics ranging from cryptocurrency to K-pop and everything in between. 

However, minimal safeguards and lax safety controls have caused Discord to turn into a hunting ground for sexual predators, leaving minors vulnerable to exploitation.  Recent lawsuits and reports have highlighted these dangers, with victims and their families alleging that Discord has failed to adequately protect its users. 

Oftentimes, predators will meet or groom a child on Roblox, another platform rife with the sexual abuse of children, and then move the child to Discord to further message with the child and engage in sexual abuse and exploitation, including pressuring the child to send explicit photos, to meet in person to engage in physical sexual abuse, or to send the child explicit content.

History of Sexual Abuse Involving Discord

Examples of sexual abuse and exploitation that have reportedly occurred on or through Discord include:

• In April 2026, a woman filed a lawsuit in San Francisco Superior Court alleging that Discord failed to protect her from multiple child abuse groups that groomed, extorted, and exploited her on the platform beginning when she was 15 years old. 

According to the complaint, Zachary Dosch, a member of a child abuse group allegedly contacted her through a public Discord server and coerced her into producing sexually explicit material, which was then shared with other group members. 

A second predator, Collin John Thomas Walker, allegedly coerced her into producing additional explicit images, sent them across Discord servers, and directed her to physically harm herself. 

A third child abuse group allegedly recruited her on Discord after she turned 18. 

The lawsuit alleged that Discord provided predators with access, anonymity, and ability to disseminate sexually explicit images.

• In January 2025, Jacob Lozano was sentenced to 32 years in prison for allegedly luring three boys online through Discord. Lozano’s abuse was uncovered when, in 2023, a mother reported a cyber tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children after finding sexually explicit images and messages on her 11-year-old son’s phone. Police discovered the messages were allegedly from a man in Florida who the boy had met while playing Fortnite, an online game. An undercover detective, posing as the boy, began messaging the man, later found to be Lozano, who allegedly continued sending explicit photos of himself and child sexual abuse material. Police found two more victims in Maricopa County who were allegedly contacted by Lozano on Discord and coerced into making sexual videos.

• In August 2024, reports revealed a rise in violent online groups using Discord to target children and persuade them to harm themselves or others.

• In June 2023, reports alleged that adults had used Discord to groom children before abducting them, to share child sexual exploitation material (CSAM), and to extort minors by tricking them into sending nude images.  At the time, NBC News identified 35 cases between 2017 and 2023 in which adults were prosecuted on charges of kidnapping, grooming or sexual assault that allegedly involved communications on Discord.  NBC News also identified an additional 165 cases, including four crime rings, in which adults were prosecuted for transmitting or receiving CSAM via Discord or for allegedly using the platform to extort children into sending sexually graphic images of themselves, also known as sextortion.
• In March 2022, CNN Business spoke to nearly a dozen parents who shared stories about their teenagers being exposed to self-harm chats, sexually explicit content and sexual predators on Discord, including users they believed were older men seeking inappropriate pictures and videos. It was reported then that a mother had discovered that her 16-year-old daughter had been chatting on Discord with someone who used a profile picture of an older man. The person had allegedly asked her daughter for nude photos, which she sent. The person also requested other private information such as their home address. Other examples from the report include a father outside of Boston who discovered that his 13-year-old daughter had been talking to a man in his 30s who was allegedly asking for photos of her and trying to involve her in “naughty cam” activities and a mother from Los Angeles who said she reported to Discord after a man allegedly started chatting with her 10-year-old daughter and sent her links to pornography.  However, the company allegedly did not respond.

Arkansas

• In June 2026, the Arkansas Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Roblox and Discord alleging the platform deliberately engineered conditions that enabled child predators, including withholding age-verification technology, rejecting internal proposals to warn children of grooming behavior to protect engagement metrics, and paying developers who built sexually explicit content on the platform. The filing noted that Roblox’s own mandatory reports to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children documented 675 instances of suspected child sexual exploitation in 2019, rising to more than 13,000 by 2023.

Nevada

• In May 2026, the state of Nevada filed a lawsuit against Discord, alleging it violated deceptive trade practice laws, facilitating child sexual abuse. 

According to the lawsuit, the company was not transparent about their ineffective safety features. They allegedly prioritized profit over child safety, allowing predators to pose as children and underage users to access the platform. 

The lawsuit cited specific instances in Reno and Las Vegas where residents were convicted of grooming or sexually assaulting minors whom they had first met through Discord.

• In September 2025, a mother filed a lawsuit against Roblox and Discord for wrongful death following her son tragically committing suicide after being sexually coerced by an adult predator into sending explicit photos on the platforms.  According to the lawsuit, Ethan Dallas, an autistic teen known as the class clown and the star pitcher on a baseball team for kids with disabilities, made a new friend on Roblox after a player who said he was a child named Nate started messaging him.  The pair would play Roblox every day and talk late into the night.  According to the lawsuit, Nate eventually showed Ethan how to disable some of the parental controls his parents had set up.  The conversations then allegedly turned sexual and moved to the messaging app Discord, where Nate demanded Ethan send explicit photos of himself, threatening to share their messages otherwise, according to the lawsuit.  Dallas’s mental health and behavior deteriorated so much so that he was placed in a residential treatment center.  Dallas eventually reported to his mother the communications with Nate.  Tragically, after disclosing to his mother that he felt “worthless,” Dallas committed suicide.  A year later, in April 2025, Florida law enforcement told the mother that “Nate” was likely Timothy O’Connor, a 37-year-old man who was arrested on separate charges of possessing child pornography and transmitting harmful material to minors.  In December 2023, O’Connor was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial, according to public records.  More than 20 lawsuits accusing Roblox of enabling sexual exploitation have reportedly been filed in federal courts so far just in 2025.

California

• In August 2025, a lawsuit was filed in California alleging that Roblox and Discord failed to protect the plaintiff parents’ 10-year-old daughter from being abducted by a predator.  According to the lawsuit, 27-year-old Matthew Macatuno Naval posed as a minor to contact the girl through Roblox. Then, the conversation reportedly moved to Discord, where the child was allegedly groomed and manipulated into sharing her home address.  The lawsuit alleges that Naval then abducted the girl from her home in Taft, California, about two hours north of Los Angeles. She was reportedly eventually found hundreds of miles away in his vehicle after a frantic, multi-agency search.

New York

• In April 2025, Lonnie Youmans was arrested in New York and charged with sexual exploitation of a child and receipt, distribution, and possession of child pornography through Discord.  Youmans allegedly used Discord to groom victims as young as 12, convinced them to send sexually explicit photos, and then threatened to leak those photos to force them into sending more and recruiting other victims.

New Jersey

• In April 2025, New Jersey’s Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Discord, alleging that Discord recklessly exposed children to violent and explicit content, including sexual abuse and exploitation. The New Jersey AG also alleges that Discord misleads parents about its safety features and ignores the spread of harmful content on the platform.

Delaware

• In March 2025, a Delaware teacher in the Christina School District, David L. Di Filippo, was charged with having inappropriate sexual behavior with a 13-year-old student. He allegedly used Discord to groom and pressure the minor to engage in a sexual relationship. 

Oregon

• In October 2022, Oregon man, Jason Kroeskop, was charged with federal child exploitation crimes after he allegedly tricked and convinced a child to take part in a sexually explicit video chat with him on Discord.  Kroeskop, allegedly using the name, Noctis Lucis #7347, pretended to be a teenager on Discord to persuade the child to engage in explicit acts during the video chat, which he secretly recorded without the child’s knowledge. He later admitted that he had been engaging in sexually explicit conversations with multiple children online since at least 2021 using Discord and other apps and platforms.

Do I Have a Case?

As civil claims, these cases are separate from any criminal proceedings that may arise from abuse and focus instead on holding institutions and companies liable for damages. This means you may still have a claim even if:
