Mesothelioma And Asbestos Exposure

NEW HAMPSHIRE: MESOTHELIOMA ATTORNEYS HELP NH ASBESTOS VICTIMS

Concord, New Hampshire – Mesothelioma Attorneys from the National Asbestos Litigation Firm of Levy Konigsberg LLP (“LK”) Are Continuing to Help New Hampshire Mesothelioma Patients and Families Obtain Legal Compensation from Companies Who Manufactured, Sold or Used Asbestos-Containing Products

Every year, thousands of men and women across the country are diagnosed with mesothelioma, including many in New Hampshire. Even more are diagnosed with lung cancer and asbestosis. All of these asbestos-related diseases could have been prevented if workers had been properly protected from exposure to asbestos.

Due to the presence of a large shipyard and numerous power plants and other industrial employers throughout New Hampshire, shipyard employees, powerhouse employees, insulators, plumbers, laborers, electricians, pipefitters, chemical operators, machinist, boilermakers, engineers and many other trades were routinely exposed to asbestos on a daily basis at their places of employment. Mesothelioma attorneys at LK have extensive experience in investigating these occupational exposures.

Shipbuilding Near New Hampshire

Located near the New Hampshire city of Portsmouth on Seavey Island, Kittery Maine, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard employed thousands of individuals from New Hampshire. Between 1917 and 1980, employees of the Portsmouth Shipyard constructed and launched submarines for the U.S. Navy, including the Abraham Lincoln (1961) and Sand Lance (1971). Other major operations, including the overhaul and repair of surface vessels, began in the early 1800’s and continue today. The Portsmouth Shipyard is in such close proximity to New Hampshire that the state of New Hampshire recognized it as existing on state land until the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2001 that Seavey Island was located in Maine.

Portsmouth Shipyard Asbestos Exposure

Submarine construction and surface repair and overhaul work performed at the Portsmouth shipyard typically occurred in cramped spaces with poor ventilation systems resulting in regular exposure to high levels of asbestos dust. Shipyard employees, independent contractors and military personnel at the Portsmouth shipyard regularly worked with and around equipment and machinery which required asbestos-containing materials. Workers at the shipyard frequently used or were exposed to asbestos dust from gaskets, packing, raw asbestos, insulation, and other asbestos-containing materials throughout their time at this shipyard. Mesothelioma attorneys at LK are experienced in identifying the unique asbestos exposures suffered by individuals who were employed at the Portsmouth shipyard. Despite your job responsibilities, there are many areas of asbestos exposure which an LK attorney will investigate.

New Hampshire Power Plants

With locations spread throughout New Hampshire, Public Service Company of New Hampshire constructed and operated numerous power plants, including Merrimack Station (1960), Newington Station (1974), Schiller Station (1952). Other power-generating properties operated by Public Service Company of New Hampshire include Amoskeag Hydro (1924), Ayers Island Hydro (1924), Canaan Hydro (1927), Garvins Falls Hydro (1901), Gorham Hydro (1917), Jackman Hydro (1926) and Smith Hydro (1948). Between the 1930s and 1980s, Public Service Company of New Hampshire employed thousands of New Hampshire citizens and contracted with numerous independent contractors. Individuals present at these New Hampshire power plants were potentially exposed to large amounts of asbestos dust.

The generation of power at these New Hampshire power plants required the use of large, high-temperature equipment. Turbines, boilers, furnaces, cooling towers and ovens were installed, maintained and repaired at these power plants. This equipment required large amounts of asbestos-containing products to properly function. Other products, including pumps, valves, motors, wire, cable, heaters, air conditioning units, gaskets, packing, chillers, and steam traps were necessary to allow the powerhouses to properly function. Individuals working at these New Hampshire power plants were exposed to high levels of asbestos dust from their work with or around these products.

Power Plant Exposure

Mesothelioma attorneys at LK are experienced in investigating powerhouse worksites. Due to the presence of various pieces of equipment and machinery throughout a power plant, there are many sources of exposure which must be investigated. During your free consultation with an LK attorney, we will explain the traditional and unique exposures suffered by individuals present at a powerhouse.

Anheuser Busch Plant

Opening for business in 1970, the Anheuser Busch plant in Merrimack, New Hampshire employed hundreds of New Hampshire citizens. Brewing beer in a plant requires large amounts of steam, electricity and labor. Tradespeople including boilermakers, electricians, plumbers, steamfitters, pipefitters, insulators, and millwrights were employed throughout the Anheuser Busch plant to install, maintain and repair the equipment used to operate the brewery. LK mesothelioma lawyers are experienced in investigating exposures suffered at breweries and can answer your questions regarding your exposures at the Merrimack Anheuser Busch brewery.

New Hampshire Pulp & Paper Industry

Beginning in the early 20th century, Berlin, New Hampshire’s largest industry consisted of several pulp and paper manufacturers, including the Brown Paper Company and Cascade. These pulp and paper companies operated large mills in New Hampshire featuring large, asbestos-containing equipment and other asbestos-containing products, which employees and independent contractors were regularly exposed to. Mesothelioma attorneys at LK are experienced in investigating the unique asbestos exposures suffered by individuals at New Hampshire’s pulp and paper mills.

Scientific Research

In 2002, an article was published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, investigating lung and pleural diseases of 62,937 males who worked for at least one year in the paper and pulp industry between the years 1945 and 1966. The study found that at least thirty-six percent of paper and pulp employees were exposed to asbestos while employed at a paper and pulp mill. Many of the paper and pulp employees who developed a lung or pleural disease performed maintenance work at the paper and pulp mill.

Other Industry in New Hampshire

Due to the presence of numerous industrial employers throughout New Hampshire, insulators, plumbers, electricians, pipefitters, chemical operators, machinists, powerhouse workers, boilermakers, engineers and many other trades were routinely exposed to asbestos. Each year, approximately three thousand men and women across the country, including many in New Hampshire, are diagnosed with mesothelioma, an aggressive asbestos cancer, due to their work with or around asbestos-containing products. Many tradespeople employed at factories, warehouses, manufacturing facilities and other industrial buildings commonly worked with and around asbestos-containing materials. During your free consultation, an LK mesothelioma attorney will review your employment history and discuss the investigation of asbestos exposure at your worksites.

Individual Case Review

In New Hampshire, and across the country, many people also developed mesothelioma from non-occupational asbestos exposures, such as automotive work, home renovations and other hobbies, or from “second-hand asbestos exposure,” which occurred when work clothes contaminated with asbestos were worn home. An experienced LK attorney will assist your family in determining all possible sources of your exposure to asbestos dust.

A Long History of Success in Mesothelioma Cases

Countless lawyers who advertise themselves as mesothelioma attorneys have never actually handled an asbestos case before. In fact, they refer them out to real mesothelioma lawyers for a fee.

That is not how we operate.

We are true, experienced mesothelioma attorneys who personally work on each case from beginning to end. We are always happy to meet our clients, whether at our New York, New Jersey, California, Georgia, Washington, or Maryland offices, at a client’s home or hospital, or anywhere in the country.

Our legal team has succeeded by negotiating tirelessly with manufacturers of asbestos products and their insurance companies, no matter how influential or uncooperative they are. We are even often able to recover compensation from companies that have long been bankrupt.

Most defense lawyers are familiar with our solid reputation and credentials and know in advance that we will not settle for less than the best possible offer. They know that we build every mesothelioma and asbestos case as if it is going to trial, and we have taken hundreds of cases to juries when a fair settlement had not been offered.

The mesothelioma attorneys at Levy Konigsberg have also served as lead counsel in major state and federal mass consolidation cases designed to benefit many hundreds of people diagnosed with mesothelioma and other types of asbestos-related diseases.

We are proud of the work our lawyers do on behalf of our clients, often in groundbreaking cases against the toughest defendants. Our law firm has obtained landmark asbestos and mesothelioma jury verdicts for exposures to welding rods, cable, asbestos gaskets and packing, commercial talc, and industrial equipment, including the first-ever jury verdicts against welding rod, cable, and commercial talk manufacturers.

Our law firm is frequently referenced by the legal press for our association with the largest and landmark asbestos and mesothelioma verdicts in virtually every category, including various jurisdictions, types of asbestos products involved, and forms of asbestos exposure.

We have recovered hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation for victims of mesothelioma and asbestos cancers, and we are prepared to fight for you.

Providing Your Case with the Individual Attention It Deserves

Unfortunately, many law firms today use a generalized approach to handling cases of the same type, even those as complex as mesothelioma cases.

With a goal of cutting back on the time spent on each case, they use broad-brush practices and techniques to process cases as fast as they can, often risking the possibility of missing important details in a case and, thus, undermining the goal of negotiating the best possible compensation for their clients.

Contrary to such mentality, we treat every case as if it was our only one. We investigate each case with a team of lawyers, paralegals, and leading experts in the field, all while being in constant communication with the clients, to ensure that we have done everything we could to reach the full potential of each individual case.

In many courts, mesothelioma cases are treated urgently and given high priority. This is particularly true if the claimant is alive. In some jurisdictions, the entire case can be resolved within four to five months; in others, it can take longer.

Here, at Levy Konigsberg, our mesothelioma cancer attorneys do everything possible to avoid delays and move our clients’ cases as quickly as we can. We accomplish this in large part due to the coordinated work of our team members and the fact that every mesothelioma case goes through a strict control and supervision, including regular follow-ups and reviews by the lead lawyers.

Our mesothelioma attorneys update clients on a regular basis, so that they always know of every important development on their case and that it is being taken care of. Our lawyers and support staff take every phone call with a high level of priority and try to answer them on the spot.

If unavailable at that very moment, we call clients back as promptly as possible. It is not uncommon that our mesothelioma attorneys provide clients with their personal cell phone numbers to address any urgent questions that the clients may have in the future.

Cases of Asbestos Exposure

Mesothelioma News

ATTENTION: Mesothelioma has no known cure and often causes severe pain, suffering, and other types of damage, such as loss of consortium, and loss of income. Additionally, due to the exceedingly high cost of mesothelioma treatments, many families exhaust savings and accumulate financial debt in order to pay for the medical expenses of their family member.

Under the law of most states, pain and suffering from mesothelioma may be compensated through the award of money damages, usually obtained with the help of experienced mesothelioma attorneys. In some states other types of damages may also be recovered.

Asbestos litigation affords mesothelioma victims the opportunity to receive financial compensation and hold accountable the companies that caused their asbestos exposure.

IMPORTANT: If you or your family member has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you should get in touch with a mesothelioma lawyer as early as possible to determine if you have a mesothelioma case and to:

  • Preserve your rights to bring a legal action against the responsible parties within the limited time frame allowed by law, known as statute of limitations;
  • Obtain maximum compensation in your case by being able to:
    • Preserve evidence and establish facts of the asbestos exposure while the claimant is still alive and able to provide information;
    • File and resolve a lawsuit against the responsible parties before they file for bankruptcy or, if they already have, to obtain compensation before their bankruptcy trust funds run out of money;
  • Expedite your case, as courts tend to give higher priority to mesothelioma lawsuits where the claimant is still alive.

NOTE: We have offices located in New York, New Jersey, California, Georgia, Washington, and Maryland. Many of our mesothelioma lawyers are licensed to practice law in a number of U.S. states and have the capability and extensive experience of representing mesothelioma clients throughout the United States.
