As a partner at Levy Konigsberg, Melanie works side by side with her clients and their families to attain justice for horrendous environmental injustices.  

Currently, she represents children who have suffered cognitive injuries from exposure to lead contaminated water. She is part of the leadership for multiple federal lawsuits that are seeking justice for children who were exposed to dangerously high lead levels in public water supplies across the country.

Melanie has experience in all phases of litigation in state and federal proceedings. In 2022, she was one of three attorneys to prosecute the first-ever civil trial related to the Flint Water Crisis.

Throughout her legal career, Melanie has immersed herself in expert discovery and litigation. She has successfully taken and defended depositions of experts from various disciplines, including neuropsychology, medical causation, toxicology, and lead detection through XRF technology. Recently, she wrote, argued, and won significant Daubert rulings in preparation for a subsequent Flint trial.

Melanie is also an appellate advocate who has written and argued complex constitutional and procedural issues throughout the United States.

Prior to joining Levy Konigsberg, Melanie served the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit as a Staff Attorney.  There, she wrote for the Second Circuit Judges, recommending dispositions on appeals and substantive motions for diverse areas of federal law, including constitutional law, Title VII discrimination, and habeas corpus.

Melanie received her Juris Doctor from New York Law School where she graduated magna cum laude and received the Joseph Solomon Award for Excellent Character and Fitness. While at New York Law School, she was an active member of the student community, serving as a Staff Editor on the Law Review, competing member of the Dispute Resolution Team, and a teaching assistant. 

Before law school, Melanie received her B.A. with a double major in Environmental Studies and English at the University of Vermont. After college, Melanie worked as a wilderness guide across the United States and abroad, guiding adolescents on backcountry excursions while teaching wilderness survival and ecology curricula. She also worked in the Southern Alps of France and is fluent in French.

Melanie is currently licensed to practice law in New York and New Jersey (where she grew up and currently resides). She is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
